FWP accepting open water fishing contest applications >

Deadline is November 1

HELENA – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is accepting open water fishing contests applications for the 2027 season. Participants must comply with state fishing regulations, including daily and possession limits.

Applications for fishing contests may be approved, approved with conditions or denied by the FWP Fisheries Division in Helena. Conditions placed on contests may help to minimize fish mortality, regulate harvest, reduce user conflicts and/or require additional access site maintenance when needed.

A fillable application is available on the FWP Fishing Contest webpage at fwp.mt.gov/fish/regulations/contests. All applications must be received on or before Nov. 1.

Post fishing contest reports are due within 30 days after the fishing contest.

Approved ice fishing contest permits for 2026-2027 will be emailed to contest sponsors by Thursday, Oct. 1.
